1. Our Commitment
Insurance Choice Advisor is committed to ensuring digital accessibility for people with disabilities. We are continually improving the user experience for everyone and applying the relevant accessibility standards to ensure equal access to our Health Coverage informational resources.
2. Conformance Standards
The Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) defines requirements for designers and developers to improve accessibility for people with disabilities. It defines three levels of conformance: Level A, Level AA, and Level AAA.
Insurance Choice Advisor is designed and maintained to conform with WCAG 2.1 Level AA standards, with additional Level AAA elements (such as ultra-high color contrast for core body copy) implemented throughout the site.
3. Accessibility Features Implemented
We have integrated numerous accessibility best practices specifically designed to assist older adults and users with visual, auditory, cognitive, or physical disabilities:
- Larger, Legible Typography: Base body copy is set to at least 17px with generous 1.68 line-height to maximize ease of reading.
- High Color Contrast: Deep charcoal text on light neutral backgrounds provides a contrast ratio greater than 13:1, far exceeding the WCAG AA minimum requirement of 4.5:1.
- Visible Keyboard Focus: All interactive elements, links, buttons, and form inputs display a distinct, high-contrast gold outline when focused via keyboard navigation.
- Screen Reader Navigation: Semantic HTML5 landmarks (
<header>,<main>,<section>,<footer>,<article>) and proper ARIA labels (includingaria-expanded,aria-controls, androle="alert") ensure clear assistive technology interpretation. - Form Accessibility: Every form input features explicit
<label>associations, inputmode hints, and accessible inline error messaging. - Reduced Motion Support: The website honors user operating system preferences for reduced motion via CSS
prefers-reduced-motionmedia queries. - Skip Link: A prominent “Skip to main content” link allows keyboard users to bypass top navigation.
4. Compatibility with Assistive Technology
Insurance Choice Advisor is designed to be compatible with modern assistive technologies and browsers:
- Screen readers including JAWS, NVDA, Apple VoiceOver, and Android TalkBack
- Operating system zoom and text enlargement up to 200% without loss of content or functionality
- Keyboard-only navigation using standard Tab, Shift+Tab, Enter, Space, and Arrow keys
- Speech recognition software
